The Mountains of Skye
3:35 A.M. "What is the necessity for all of this?" He is so rude, he is so idiotic! Sarge, was the man who taught me to use the power of fire. He was a mountain man, if you will, he lived high in the coldest mountains in the City of Skye. He was the master of fire and survival. Me meeting Sarge was sort of, fate, I guess. I was searching for the means to fight injustice, but I needed to learn a way, or find a way, to survive. To survive and never give up with resources are limited or there are none. Sarge was already an older gentlemen. He had the scruffy look and all. He would always have his signature cigar, in his mouth, whether it was lit or not, it would be there. He would dress ready for combat in the mountains, dressed for the cold and dressed in case anyone, or animal, would run up on him. He carried two pistols with him and a rifle on his back, I didn't like that, I didn't like the guns, but whatever works for him. This was not the only interesting aspect of him. The interesting part was that he could wield fire. After years of exposing himself, he told me, to the ailments and fire, he developed the ability to use it for his own use. I had ventured into the mountains for one sole purpose, solitude. I was looking for solitude after what happened to my mother, I was looking to find myself and to find the means to fight the crime and violence in our city. And various other places. |

The Mountains of Skye
3:30 A.M. "Do I have the means to survive?" Who are you and where did you come from? It was my first day in the mountains. I had no clue about where I would go, all that I knew is that I had a goal and I wasn't alone. Meifang was right there beside me, er, in my mind at least, she hadn't come out. The mountains were brutally cold, as you would expect, but Skye's mountains are extremely cold. I could not use my winds, mainly because the winds would blow the cold air onto me and I didn't know how to change temperature. I wasn't the pro that I am now at my winds back then either. There were a few more events that happened in between me walking but that was mainly me building a shelter and meditating in the middle of an early morning snow storm. What is important is when Sarge and I finally met. We met on the day that I was very low on everything, water, food, the will to go on anymore. Even if I did give way, I would finally see my mother again, but that wasn't a full blown option, my mind just gets crazy. My heaviest jacket was already gone, after being attacked by some animals, I just let them have the damn thing. Sarge must've realized that I was there after I was attacked by the animals, I did change the weather briefly to use my winds to scare them off. I was freezing, shaking and shuddering, but then I heard the sound of a tree branch snap in two. |

The Mountains of Skye
3:45 A.M. If you hurt me, it'll be the biggest mistake of your life. It was scary to me, I started to hear, what sounded like laughter, who's laughing at me? "Who's there?!" I yelled out into the cold, still air, my breath made me look like a steam engine. "Ahahahah!" is what I had heard in return, it sounded like a grown man's voice. I had begun to scan my surroundings looking for who it might be, when I noticed a fire ball barreling towards me. "Whoa!" I exclaimed as I threw my winds in front of me to dissipate the fire. "Ahahaha, oooo boy, you're strong but you sure do look like shit." a man had said as jumped down from a tree above. I was petrified now, I didn't trust my ability yet to take him down, but I trusted my fighting skills. I tightened my fists, "Who are you?" my voice was weak and shaky. "What do you want from me?", "Ahahaha, girl I just want to help you, you look like you're about to pass out." he said with a smile. "What is your name?" I said to him, "The name's Sarge baby" he said. I normally don't like being called that but, I was in no position to do anything about right then and there. "What's your name?" he said. "Nyx, my name is Nyx.", "Ahh," he said, "Nyx, a nice strong name, beautiful name too." He dusted off his coat and lit his cigar. "Let's head back to my shed, I'll get you warm and give ya some soup." He said to me and started to walk away. I wasn't to trusting of this guy but of course, Meifang had to say something, she was right though, "Go with him Nyx," Meifang said, "No, I don't know him." I said in reply to her, "Just do it, it'll pay off, I'm right here with you." |

Sarge's Shed
4:00 A.M. Why on earth am I here, this old guy won't be able to teach me anything. It was quite the walk back to Sarge's shed. He lived right on the face of a mountain, I wondered about Avalanches but, he did have the power of fire so I guess he was alright in this spot. It wasn't too big of a home and it wasn't too small, it was perfect, considering that it was just him who lived there. There was a snow mobile parked out in front and some weapons visible through his window. He was ready for combat. "Here we are!" Sarge said as he put his hands in the air, guestering towards his home. "It's not much, but, it's home.", I guess it looked ok, "It looks very nice Sarge." I said to him. "He seems nice doesn't he?" Meifang said, "It's too early to tell, let's get inside first." I said in return to her. We walked inside and Sarge threw a fireball at his fire place lighting the wood, "Let's get you warm and get some food in ya." He said as he walked to the kitchen. I took my thinner jacket off and hung it up on his coat rack. "It looks like he used to be apart of the military," I said to Meifang, "Know anything about this Meifang?", "I do not Nyx, maybe, in due time, we will find out." Meifang said in return. |

Sarge's Shed
4:15 A.M. What makes you think that I would need any help? I was looking around the front of Sarge's shed, like any person would, I was curious about him. Also, it's not like I trusted this man that much either. Gun's on racks, some, filled with ammo. Medals, a speran guard medal. "He was apart of the military Meifang." I said to her in my head, "It would appear to be." She said in return. The smell of chicken noodle soup soon filled the entire home. "Here you are missy," Sarge said as he carried the soup out to me with crackers and some water, "Hope you enjoy it.", "Thank you Sarge," I said to him as he put down the glass of water "This is just what I need." Sarge had a small television in his front room, it got basic television, I don't think that he watched much TV. Good thing is, he watched the news, that was good enough for me. "Eat up Nyx," Sarge began to say "In a little while, I'll teach you something that you desperately need.", "What would that be?" I said to him as I looked up from my soup, "To survive, by any means necessary. But I will teach you to do it, using fire." Fire is not something that I had ever thought of needing. I am pretty fine with my wind powers, but if survival is needed, which it is, I guess learning it wouldn't hurt. |

Sarge's Shed
4:35 A.M. Exactly how am I going to learn this?
After some time relaxing in Sarge's shed talking about his life and why he was here. He decided it was best for him to start teaching me the ways of the universes' heart. I would learn to use the fire deep within my soul, I didn't exactly think my heart was warm, ever since. We walked outside into the bearing tundra, by Gaustion Edge is was freezing out here. "Alright now missy, I'm gunna teach you how to work fire!" Sarge said, sounding happy as a linzin with a new string ball.
"And how will I be learning this? I'm not exactly gifted with this, my expertise is the wind." I said to him clutching my arms for warmth. "Ha, you see that, right there," He said pointing to me. "What?" I said in return, I was quick with the tongue. "You're clutching your arms, you're cold, you're winds can't warm you from that, not here," He began to say as his hands began to glow a nice red. "See this, this is what keeps me warm," He walked over and touched my shoulders. The warmth had over taken me like a hurricane in Luminasa.
"Sweet wind powers, that feels devine." I said to him, soaking up all the heat. "I'm gonna teach you how to do that, with exposure," he took his hands from off me and started a fire about 6 feet in front of me. "What do you mean exposure?" I said as I watched and listened at the crackling of the flames."I learned the power of fire, by just lying down in the fire, sure it was pain full, but the fire one day, broke through my skin and seeped into me," He said with a smile while looking at the flames. "That's what I want YOU to do." |

The Mountains Forest
4:50 A.M. You can do that to yourself, I'm fine with my skin intact thank you.
Sarge's words were still ringing throughout my mind. "That's what I want YOU to do." How could he put in such a position, I can't do this. "Meifang," I said in my mind, "What do I do, I can't do this, this is pure insanity." Meifang must've been pondering her thoughts, "This is the only way to learn the way Nyx," She said and ruffled her feathers, "You must survive, you must know pain." Of course, she would be taking his side, do I dare complete this act of self inflicting torture?
"Ok Sarge," I said and crossed my arms, "Let us begin." "There's the tough girl that I knew was there!" Sarge said, he seemed excited, and he ran off and retrieved some stones and laid them out as if he were making a bed. "This is where you will lay in the fire, Nyx." He said as he looked at me and put some wood in the stone bed. He lit the wood and put a steel tray on top. It was a perfect width and length for my body. "You want me to lay on that?" I said to him, I gave him a most puzzling look. "This is the only way, limiting at least some of the pain--" He paused, "Err, maybe this amplifies it, I don't know, just lay on it."
"Do you still think is wise, Meifang?!" I said to her again in my mind. "I know this seems rough, Nyx. But you've got to do it." Meifang said, her eyes were saying otherwise. "You ready Nyx?" Sarge said. I laid down on he tray with just my bra and underwear on. I took a deep breath, called my winds to help calm me a bit. Sarge lit the wood beneath me. |
